I may have mentioned it once or twice…or maybe more times than that, but I have a Pinterest Board that I use to list things I would very much like, if I can find them on Pinterest that is, and if not I just retroactively add them once I do own them and can take photos… you get the general idea. What with Christmas gifts, together with a bit of an Amazon spree just before Christmas, and a trip to Ikea, I am now the owner of a number of the things on the list.
I am currently sat in my Japanese apron (and other clothes, obviously, I am not an animal!), listening to K-pop, typing on my laptop.

I am half-way through Courtney Carver’s book, which has really been the boost I needed to jump on here and get this post ready; a review of 2018, and what I am looking forward to in 2019.
You may have seen the ominous countdown on the right (or maybe below, if you are on your phone) It says I have 3.6 years. This is when my youngest son leaves school, and I can finally start looking at teaching aboard! In the grand scheme of things, it is not long at all, especially considering the work I still need to do to my house, my health and my life.
2018 was to be a year of preparation; there were a few things I wanted to get done so that I could launch into 2019, which was to be my planning year. I even had a hashtag for it!
Here are a few of the things I hoped to get done.
House: Have the upstairs cleared, and start on the bathroom
Bucket List: To have ticked off at least 4 things
Language Skills: To have continued to work hard, and made a Vlog in Japanese
General Life: To have improved my diet, lost weight and sorted my debts out
What I achieved
House: Still not cleared, but now we have a bigger car we can do tip-runs and work on getting the clutter out. The bathroom money went on the car; I still don’t have my bathroom.
Bucket List: I added loads of news things, but only ticked off a few parts of the cumulative tasks – got to visit Berlin though, and go indoor skydiving
Language Skills: Not done that video yet, but I am certainly improving, and thanks to a great Christmas gift, I am now working on a mixed language poetry book.
General Life: Health has been good; I started Pilates and physiotherapy – and was told I have great collagen, apparently. 2019 may result in an operation, but I have been expecting it for a number of years, and I am actually looking forward to moving on health-wise. The weight loss and diet thing are top of my 2019 carry over list and I have no debts to speak of now that Paul has finally – after 12 years – got a job. This also means more money for savings, so I will definitely get my bathroom this year! I also started taking this blog a lot more seriously, so while it didn’t really figure in my 2018 plan, I am hoping that 2019 will be the year where it takes off.
The Plan for 2019
As per a previous post, I have carefully curated a few items from my Kettle List to help me focus on getting them done. It will then be possible to get the Vlog back on track to being about Bucket Lists, rather than random filler to ensure I have a Vlog each Monday.
And that sea task is being done in 2019- I am going in there- up to the waist! With all the encouraging comments on my post about it, I know that I will be able to do it!
I will be spending more time on my blog and writing, as I try and finish at least one of the books I have started writing. There are also plans to create a few printables and to do more craft based collaborations as I winnow down what I want on here. I am hoping to upgrade the site, and potentially even look at monetising it through links and affiliations – although the content is the main focus of my plan. I need to learn more blogging skills, tidy up what I have and concentrate on a whole ‘less is more’ mentality; I will spend longer on writing less articles, in an effort to improve the content – if that makes sense. I will be working on a few posts a week – but focusing more on the content.
As for the house, the declutter continues – my plan is to clear the spare room, put all of the clutter from downstairs there for now, and get my bathroom done (there is a Pinterest board for that too, because, of course there is!) Once the bathroom is in, we can concentrate on a total reduction of the amount of stuff in the house. As Marie Kondo suggests look at your things and decide what you want to keep, rather that look at want you want to get rid of; I need to curate my belongings to fit the home I want to have.
Language-wise, I am doubling down. I am trying to do more learning, writing, listening and speaking. The aim is to make that Vlog, entirely in Japanese. I also have a blog on a Japanese site -Don’t ask; I had to set one up so I could read the other ones! – While I am not entirely sure what the whole thing is about yet, I am hoping to start interacting with people there too.
The Pilates will continue, and as ‘become more flexible’ is one the Kettle List, I will aim to be able to touch my toes by the end of the year…should probably get some before and after photos…
So, all-in-all 2018 has been pretty good, with our being able to go on a few trips and getting some of the cumulative parts of the Kettle List ticked off – especially the indoor skydiving and the afternoon tea. 2019 looks to be a good year too, now that I am more focused and have decided to reduce the amount of things I need to concentrate on.
