40th Birthday Round-up

March 16th 2017 – My 40th Birthday!

I suppose it could be seen as a sign of a good party, but I have very few pictures of my birthday events (that sounds like there was loads of stuff going on, like I am the queen or something, but I did 3 separate things; one was a party, one was a meal and the other was a eat cake and drink coffee thing, so ‘event’ would cover all of that).

But here are a few pictures, and a link to the Vlog over on You Tube.

One thing that you may be able to make out from these pictures, is that I ended up having a LOT of cakes!

I got up early-ish to be given lots of cards, a cool mug and an amazing cake that has a unicorn sat on a rainbow (Cake #1).  Most of my actual birthday was spent at Uni – and while I did get to share a few cakes in class, I spent about 3 hours sat in the computer lab trying to get my head around social theory…I eventually got out at 6pm and then went to Mum’s house.. who had a cake waiting for me (Cake #2).  One of the kids was entrusted with filming blowing the matches out – not a typo, there were actually no candles, so I had to stick the matches into the cake!)  Sadly iPad is not Hannah medium and all the pictures and video were a bit blurry, so I grabbed a few ‘texture’ shots before opening my presents.  I had a lovely dress from Rin, and also wine and a plant…I have also got more flowers than I have vases for so I will have to crack out the posh glasses.

Friday is my ‘Skype Yumi’ day, so I had a chat with her and then it was back to Mum’s for  help with my hair. As per usual I received a text from Harri (eldest child, she’s the one coming to Japan with me) who needed picking up from Chippenham – it’s miles away, so we spent a good part of the evening taxiing  people about.  We finally arrived at the party Rin had organised – and I was plied with a cherry based  cocktail (because, cherry blossom =Japan =theme = Rin just knows) which I am fairly certain had an entire bottle of vodka in it.  I may have had a few too many of those… and some wine…and a ‘Christmas Cake’ flavoured liqueur of some sort…

At this point I would like to give a shout out to the Meagers’, who supplied possibly the the most original, if not slightly crazy present of the night… 40 pieces of fruit.  It was actually genius because my squad LOVE fruit, and we are already pretty close to eating them all.  Certainly a lot healthier than the 4 bottles of wine, 3 boxes of choccies and coffee card I received – which will also soon be all gone!

I then received cake #3 which had real candles on it – and only 4, for which I and my poor asthmatic lungs were grateful! We got to bring half of it home with us, but much like the fruit, it didn’t last very long!

Final night of partying : luckily didn’t start until 6pm, because I think I may have eaten something that didn’t agree with me, or caught a bug or something, because I felt pretty rough when I woke up Saturday.  I was feeling much better, and hungrier, when we went off to Botteginos for a meal with my brother and his wife, and my Mum and step-dad.  I had some lovely food, and was almost finished with my vanilla latte when cake #4 showed up with sparklers!  And it had Kitty on it! I intend buying ALL the Kitty things when I get to Japan!

I’m off to finish that fruit…Francesca borrowed the basket from church and they’ll need it back, luckily my children appear to be lemurs and are giving it short thrift!
This week I will be mostly writing powerpoint presentations and my dissertation proposal, but hopefully I will do at least one thing from the list that I will be able to mention next week.

Kettle’s on, Polly’s out…
