Just for Valentines Day
This could just as easily be a top 500, the majority of songs are about love, or being in love…or losing love, but that’s not what we want to hear about at this time of year!
As it is, I only have to choose 5, so I thought I would go for a mix for styles and artists, all of whom want to share the love with you, just in time for Valentines!

Long before YouTube… There were single, inconvenient songs on a record
Back in the day – the ‘day’ being between 1987 and 1997- I used to buy lots of singles. They only used to cost about 99 pence in Woolworths back then, or maybe that was the reduced price, they used to sell them off once they left the charts. Records, and then later tapes, were what I spent my birthday and pocket money on.
Sadly Woolworths, their records and their pick n mix are no longer with us. To be fair, neither do I own a record player or anything that plays tapes, so they wouldn’t be much use to me anyway.
Nowadays I am all about Spotify and You Tube, and I am pretty sure I wouldn’t be able to get most of the music I listen to daily as singles now anyway, what with me being into Korean Indie bands – I am so cool and down with the kids…
But sometimes, I like to reminisce about the tunes I listened in my youth. These are some of the ones I liked so much – I bought them.

The best musical intros
I love musicals; the Fred Astaire ones from the Thirties, the Technicolor wonders staring Gene Kelly in the Fifties, and epic modern stage shows. The hallmark of a great musical is a banging first number or overture, so this week’s Tuesday Tunes will showcase some of my favourite opening songs.

Not all cartoons are Disney
Last week I mentioned that I had once worked in the Disney Store and shared some of my top Disney tunes. One thing that used to happen quite often was being approached by someone who demanded you sell them something that just wasn’t Disney. We did not have any Swan Lake Barbie DVD’ or dolls, neither did we have Thumbelina or The Road to El Dorado, but some of those non-Disney films had great tunes, and here are 5 of them…

My favourite Disney Tunes
I will be spending part of this evening driving to the airport to collect Harriet following her first ‘solo’ trip abroad. I say solo, her boyfriend Jack was there too, but it was her first trip abroad that had been mostly booked and planned by her. You have probably guessed by now where she went… Disneyland Paris. Harri is a massive Disney fan, she managed to visit Disneyland Tokyo when we were in Japan, and so it got me thinking about my favourite Disney tunes…

5 ‘Get up and Go’ Tunes
I am writing this through immense pain! It reminds me of when I was off work ill in September; a time where I was able to get loads of writing done, and my blog set back up as I typed through tears and sniffs. The good thing about tooth ache is the the rest of your body works, so I can write on through!
What I need is a bunch of cheerful tunes; songs that motivate and make you want to get on with doing what you have to have to do…or possibly stop and have a dance.

My 2018 Spotify:
Any fellow Spotify addicts will be aware, at the end of the year the company compiles a list of the tunes you have listened to and gives you some stats. Some of mine were not particularly surprising:
I started the year listening to Big Bang, managed to clock up 30,781 minutes of tune time, 80 hours of which were spent with Hyukoh (I wish!). My five top artists were 4 Korean bands …and Paul Weller!
I apparently listen to 131% more non-mainstream artists than most (such a hipster!)
and these are my top listened to tunes…
