Polly’s Pondering – A Person v People ; or why crowds suck.

This week I have been pondering people, and why they are, sometimes, so annoying…

A person is Smart, People are Dumb.

That’s right, I am not above quoting ‘Men in Black‘ – seemed like an appropriate header to start this piece off, which was inspired, in part, by the concert Hannah and I attended yesterday. It is a bit off brand; I like to consider myself a polite nice lady of the blogosphere. But there is really just one thing that really annoys me… And it is other people.

5 of the Best: Polly’s Birthday Tunes

#pptko2019 blog header base - tuesday tunes

As it is my birthday this week…

I thought I would look back on the shows and concerts I have attended as Birthday presents over the years, and share some of the tunes I have listened to over the last 40 or so years.

From concerts I attended with my Nan & Granddad back in the eighties, to my 21st birthday, my 40th and a few more in between music has always had an integral role in my Birthday celebrations. I’m actually off to a concert tomorrow, as I have decided to stretch my birthday out for a whole week – because, why not?

What concerts have been most memorable for you? Have you seen any of these performers?

Polly’s Pondering – The Roots of Happiness

This week I have been pondering happiness and where we can find it…

While out visiting my Nan on the weekend, I decided to cheer myself up with a cheeky purchase. Now that I am not obliged to read, as was the case at University, there is a whole world of literature that has opened up to me. One of the books that I bought was Fumio Sasaki’s “Goodbye, Things”, which has inspired today’s pondering… What makes us happy and is that happiness sustainable?

Polly Filler – Do you only regret the things you don’t do?

Instagram _ blog picture

It has been an odd weekend, one way or the other. At 8.15 on Saturday morning I was meeting my brother outside of the hospital to go in and see my Nan. We – and when I say we, I mean my brother – had received a message from my aunt that an operation my Nan had been given on the previous Monday – which we knew nothing about- had been unsuccessful. Euphemisms like ‘being made comfortable’ and ‘ a matter of time were bandied about. Basically ‘go visit your Nan, she is going to die soon’. I have often said I wanted to live to 92, and that is the age my Nan is now.

“I’ve had a good life” she told me. “But I doubt I’ll be leaving here” After a few moments silence, she mused “I’ve got top’s hung up in the wardrobe I have never even worn, still got the labels on. Wonder if the receipt is somewhere, one of the girls could take them back.”
As her life draws to an end, my Nan pondered whether she had left her heating on back home; back in the little bungalow she would never be seeing again…

Kettle List Update: The 2019 Focus List

Back in the day – that day being December 21st 2018…

I had the wizard idea to select a few items from my Kettle/Bucket/Bristol List and focus on getting them completed. With 13 outstanding items on the 40 x 40, and pretty much ALL of them from the Kettle List, it seemed like a plan was in order. I was trying to concentrate on too many things.

So I thought I would give you a bit of an update.

I’m sure your 5 tunes would be different, so check mine out and then let me know what I should include next time I do a ‘5 of the best’ kids show’s intro’s

Polly’s Pondering’s : Revisiting the Create versus Consume dilemma

It is with no small irony, that I have been neglecting my blog, to, of all things, write, but I thought I would look at consuming with you today, as it was a subject that was touched upon in one of my earliest Pondering’s. Can we really create in a void? Is there such a thing as ‘new ideas’?
